Measures being taken to combat COVID-19

The Southern African Wildlife College is aware of developments in the spread of the Coronavirus both internationally and locally.

We are monitoring the situation closely, and are taking precautionary measures, while waiting for further clarity and directives at government level. This follows the spread of the virus and the statement released yesterday, Sunday March 15, by the President of South Africa, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, on measures being taken in South Africa to combat the COVID-19 epidemic. As of last night South Africa had 61 confirmed cases of people infected with the virus, with this number expected to rise in the coming days and weeks.

The government of South Africa has now declared a national state of disaster in terms of the Disaster Management Act. This will allow for integrated and coordinated disaster management mechanisms that will focus on preventing and reducing further outbreaks of the virus. Emergency, rapid and effective response systems have and are being put in place nationally to mitigate the severity of the impact.

As a training institution, we are in the process of putting our own measures in place in line with government directives, which we will further be communicating to all our stakeholders in due course. In the meantime every precaution is being taken to ensure the safety of our staff, students and other people on campus.
