About the SAWC

We have helped train over 20 000 people from 56 countries around the world by partnering with conservation agencies, local communities, governments, and other educational institutions. Our  students work in 127 parks across Africa and are responsible for some of the world’s most biologically diverse areas.

Our College is registered as an accredited Higher Education and Training institution specialising training conservationists and building a skilled conservation sector for Africa.

Our Approach

Our wildlife college students learn in the classroom, in the field and online. This blended approach differs depending on the course of study. The online learning components are fully supported by our academic team and prepare students  for their intensive time in the field, practically applying what they have learnt.

OUR TRAINING DEPARTMENTS

The SAWC’s training departments have never been pre-determined, but rather identified after consultation with conservation organisations regarding career pathing and skills gaps across the SADC region. The associated training interventions have been grouped into conservation themes in order for the SAWC to have functional training departments, targeting specific skill sets. The services offered by each training department assists the College in meeting its identified goals.

OUR HUBS

The African Intergenerational Leadership Hub

The African Intergenerational Leadership Hub (AIGLH) aims to build intergenerational leadership capacity in the environmental sustainability and conservation arena. AIGLH leadership programmes are focussed in Southern and East African conservation institutions and communities.

The Innovation Hub

The goal of the Innovation Hub is to create a space to pilot, demonstrate, and train practitioners on best practice using existing and emerging tools and technological applications in the field of conservation management.
