Make a difference
OHNM’s main aim is to create awareness about the rhino poaching crisis and to raise funds in support of the College’s work. In doing so, the OHNM campaign helps raise funds for the College’s four tiered approach to counter poaching.
Using the principles of inclusive conservation – people/planet/economy – the College has developed and tested an innovative four-tiered approach to help curb the tide and inform best practice. Through the generosity of many, we have been able to keep these projects running at great success.
Our Sponsor-A-Student learner legacy campaign was created in recognition of the lack of funding for conservation training in southern Africa. Despite the importance of training professionals in anti-poaching, wildlife conflict management, and natural resource management, little or no government funding is provided.
This campaign gives donors the opportunity to change a life by sponsoring a student’s education or contributing to their bursary fees.
This campaign helps to keep our aerial surveillance team in the sky by offering supporters the chance to sponsor a patrol flight. The air wing unit works with the field rangers and the K9 unit to respond to incursions as quickly as possible.
With additional funding generated through this campaign, the aerial team can spend more time on patrol, especially over high risk periods, helping prevent potential poaching incidents. The team is also called in to assist with rescue operations where a rhino has been wounded or where rhino calves are orphaned and left to fend for themselves.
This campaign supports the College’s hard working K9 unit, which contributes significantly to counter-poaching in the Greater Kruger area. The unit relies on donor funding for the hounds’ food, shelter and security.
Through this campaign, supporters can sponsor a dog’s food and housing for a period of time, or donate towards the core costs of running the highly successful, innovative unit.
