Sboniso Phakathi, hails from KwaZulu-Natal and has been involved in conservation for the past 13 years.
At the College he is a Projects leader in our Community Department’s Rural Initiatives for a Sustainable Environment Unit, RISE in short. The Unit’s work is in rural community- conservation initiatives, with project sites in Mpumalanga, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, and in Mozambique.
His passion for the natural environment, community development and conservation is rooted in his curiosity about humans, specifically in groups as well as the environmental & developmental psychological aspects of people.
He says ”I have an interest in finding novel and creative ways in which rural communities, specifically those near conservation areas, can develop and deepen their interest in conservation or environmentalism whilst benefitting meaningfully from and contributing towards the protection and sustainability of these biologically diverse spaces…”
