“Conservation Starts at Home”

Biography

Peter Hamming holds a MSc from the University of Witwatersrand in Resource Conservation Biology. Travelling America (2015) and the Netherlands (2012) to get a better understanding of international conservation efforts opened his mind to various conservation approaches. Equipped with these international experiences and South African wildlife experiences he aims to support like-minded people in their conservation efforts.

Peter joined the SAWC in 2018 as a volunteer and joined the staff team as a researcher in 2020. In between research projects he was responsible for setting up SMART at the SAWC (2019), implement SMART in a Mozambique site (2021), and investigate other software solutions that can be useful to conservation. Today he is involved in creating a capacity building strategy for SMART in Africa.

Following his motto “Conservation Starts at Home” Peter uses his free time to do bird research and educate other people in the protection of nature. Sharing his knowledge and eagerness to find solutions.

Qualifications

  • Masters in Resource conservation Biology at the University of Witwatersrand
  • Btech degree in Ecotourism management at Tshwane University of Technology
  • National diploma in Eco tourism management at Tswane University of technology
