Biography

I’m Mathews Mumbi born on the 25th of November, 1984 in the Northern Province of Zambia at Zambia College of Agriculture, Mpika and I’m the second born in the family of 9. I started school at Chilufya Basic School in Mpika and in 1999 I was selected to go to Mpika Boys secondary School where I completed my senior secondary school education in 2002. In 2005, I was picked to undergo semi paramilitary training at Chunga Wildlife College under the World Bank Support Program in the Greater Kafue National Park of which I successfully completed and on 1st January, 2006 I was offered employment by now the defunct Zambia Wildlife Authority as a Wildlife Police Officer and my first posting was in Mulobezi Game Management Area. After working for 11 Months in the GMA I was transferred to Ngoma Area Management Unit due to shortage of man power

In 2014 I was transferred from Ngoma Area Management Unit to Mumbwa Regional office and I was taken back to Conservation and Management department since at the Region office there is no Research wing. After working for a while i.e. 6 months I was promoted to the ranks of a Senior Wildlife Police Officer (SWPO) whose responsibilities is to plan and perform general patrol duties as required, Prepare deployment strategies on monthly basis (Long patrols, Short patrols and Day patrols, supervise teams of Wildlife Police Officer, Community Scouts and Trainees and provide on the job training.

In 2018 I was again picked by the institution DNPW to undergo a training in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (Drones) which was hosted by Zambia Air Service Training Institute (ZASTI) and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) funded by World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) which I also successfully completed. In 2019 I was readmitted at Southern African Wildlife College this time to pursue advanced Certificate in Nature Conservation: Tran’s frontier conservation Management NQF level 6.
