FIRST JOB INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

AS A PARTNER TO THE FIRSTJOB PROGRAMME THE COLLEGE HAS EIGHT (08) INTERNSHIP VACANCIES WITHIN VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS FOR YOUTH AGED 18 – 34

The Southern African Wildlife College is partnering with the FirstJob Programme to offer meaningful work opportunities for unemployed youth for a 12-month period, funded by one of the big four banks, this opportunity aims to employ interns who have never had formal employment. You need to be a South African citizen.

    4. Have never held a full-time position before (this is a FirstJob opportunity) and preferably have not participated in a learnership or internship before
    5. Live within 60 km from our offices/site, which is situated at Springvalley Farm 200KU R531 to Orpen Road, Kempiana Nature Reserve, Hoedspruit, South Africa
    6. Are not currently in full-time studies and are able to attend this internship full-time
    7. Are willing to be subjected to a credit and criminal check or any industry-specific checks required for your job role
    8. Preference will be given to candidates from designated groups and people with disabilities in accordance with the organisation employment equity plan.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education: A minimum of Grade 12 for most of the positions, however, kindly take note that a few positions require an undergraduate degree. These are listed accordingly with the positions available.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES

  • Must be a born South African citizen with a valid SA Identity document
  • Must have a certificate of medical fitness from a medical practitioner
  • Preference is always given to those who have completed training programmes at the College and to those who have previously passed integrity testing as this is a requirement for access, as entrance to the College premises set down by the owner of the land on which the College operates
  • Valid driver’s license would be a definite advantage
  • Certified copy of highest qualification
  • A certified copy of ID not older than 3 months

DEVELOPMENTAL PATHWAYS

  • All candidates will be provided opportunities to learn and develop
  • Candidates may be required to successfully complete a pre-selection assessment test

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS / INTRINSIC QUALITIES

  • The MOST important criteria would be a willingness to learn, enthusiasm for new experiences and challenges, and an eagerness to develop oneself.
  • Computer literacy in MSWord, MS Excel, Internet and Smartphone use would be an advantage
  • Numeracy & Literacy (Spoken and written English must be good) may be tested in a preselection test
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, stakeholders, and others

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical strength/agility sufficient to perform a wide variety of physical tasks
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for certain job assignments and as per Covid-19 regulations, KPA’s and Specific Intern Roles

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

It is an operational requirement that all College employees undergo pre-employment integrity testing and submit to random integrity tests. This is a requirement for access and entrance to the College premises set down by the owner of the land on which the College operates.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Many of these positions are shift-based, and as such the interns will be required to work on weekends. The working week is; five days working days with two days off, irrespective of the days of the week that are worked.

The use of cell phones during working hours is strictly prohibited

The 8 (eight) positions available are as follows;

Interns must be able to start their internship on 01 July 2025, which will run for 12 months – ending, on 30 June 2026.

A total of 5 (five) interns are required for the departments based at the Main Campus.

1. Hospitality Department: Food Service Assistant. 2 (two) x interns are requested at the Main Campus. Province – Limpopo or Mpumalanga (A certificate for chef competency is a must / having gone through a catering school)

2. Hospitality Department: Hospitality Supervisor Assistant. 1 (one) x intern is requested at the Main Campus. Province – Limpopo or Mpumalanga

3. Maintenance Operations Services: General maintenance. 2 (two) x interns requested for the main campus. Province – Limpopo or Mpumalanga

A total of 3 (three) interns are required for the Protected Area Integrity Campus (Field Ranger Training Base)

1. Food Service Assistant Intern: 2 (two) x interns are requested for the Protected Area Integrity Department at the Field Ranger Training Base/Campus. Province – Limpopo or Mpumalanga

2. Hospitality Department: Hospitality Supervisor Assistant. 1 (one) x intern requested at the Protected Area Integrity Department at the Field Ranger Training Base/Campus. Province – Limpopo or Mpumalanga
