As another year draws to a rapid close, we cannot but reflect on the successes of this past year. It certainly was a year of full recovery with us training a record number of students both on and off-site.
The College has met and exceeded its annual training target with training having been delivered to 21 different nationalities.
Of note is the fact that a total of 750 of these students have been trained in the Protected Area Integrity unit. This unit has expanded its offerings and developed a fully-equipped operations room to develop training programmes that are anticipated to be accredited during 2024. A further highlight is the training of 392 students within the Responsible Resource Management department. Our course offerings encompass training in responsible resource use, along with instruction in regenerative grazing management (Eco-rangers).
Our counter-poaching units, including our field ranger, K9, aerial support and community engagement units have continued to make great strides in safeguarding our natural resources including our iconic rhino. Twenty-five students on our year-long Natural Resource Management, Terrestrial programme have just returned to their workplaces, well equipped to face the challenges that lie ahead.
Once again, our donors have partnered with us to ensure our collective objectives were met. Thank you for your continued and valued support, which allows us to keep impacting the conservation sector and its various stakeholders, including our communities.
Our sincere thanks to those training partners and donors that have already committed funding to 2024. We look forward to working with each and every one of you to continue making a difference. Your support enables us to continue with our vital work across the continent and beyond.
With this last 2023 issue of The Bateleur we extend our gratitude to the dedicated rangers, pilots, and support units who unselfishly devote their time, often going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that our wildlife and wild spaces are protected.
Wishing everyone a safe and blessed festive season! Enjoy the read…
