National Certificate in Natural Resource Management: Terrestrial
Field Ranger motivating for long-term sustainable resource use within local community.
“I would like to be a competent leader in conservation and help to provide sustainable water sources for human and wildlife consumption and prevent the outbreak of veld fires that damage communities and the natural environment.”
Jacob is a Field Ranger at Modjadji Nature Reserve in South Africa’s Limpopo Province where his key responsibilities include law enforcement, veld management, fire-break execution, infrastructural maintenance, and ecological data collection.
Prior to his current employment with the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET), Jacob completed a Field Ranger training course at the Southern African Wildlife College and gained practical experience at Hans Merensky Nature Reserve for two years.
Jacob also served his community soon after matriculating when he volunteered to survey livelihood analysis and water security for development programme, Kodumela. His insight into local issues in conservation has motivated him to want to make a difference and spread awareness about the importance of conserving natural resources.
In order to bring about as much effective change as possible in his line of work, Jacob wants to achieve his National Certificate in Natural Resource Management.
