Zandile Pureen Mdluli
Higher Certificate in Nature Conservation from Mpumalanga Parks and Tourism Agency
Passionate House Keeper driven to become a Field Ranger
“My job as a housekeeper for nine years at Nooitgedacht Nature Reserve has given me the inspiration to learn more about nature and how to protect it. Now I want to become a Field Ranger so that I can look after the environment I have always worked in.”
Zandile transitioned from her earlier career as a cashier to now being a long-time employee of Mpumalanga Parks and Tourism Agency. She took the plunge and enrolled at the Southern African Wildlife College in the Higher Certificate in Nature Conservation course this year, believing that this would be her best opportunity to develop her desired career as a Field Ranger. As a House Keeper, Zandile has a different background to many of her fellow students, many of whom are already qualified Field Rangers and Field Guides, and her ambition to join the ranks of conservationists is all the more admirable. She believes the SAWC is the best opportunity she has at reaching her goal, and that completing this course is the first step of many.
Zandile’s dream to become a Field Ranger will take her from inside to the great outdoors, and her journey there will equip her with the information, skills, and training she needs to carry out her duty and inspire others to follow in her footsteps.
Zandile requires support towards the R75 000 needed for her bursary. This is an amount that she does not have access to personally, which is why the SAWC as a non-profit organisation is calling upon a network of donors and supporters to help raise these funds. By donating any amount, large or small, you are playing a crucial role in helping Zandile receive the best possible training for her career in conservation.
