Sabelo Sandiso Roman
Advanced Certificate in Nature Conservation Student from Table Mountain National Park
From Table Mountain to the bushveld – it all needs protecting
“I believe that the Southern African Wildlife College is the only place that offers a hands-on approach to wildlife area management and will give me the best holistic understanding of conservation. I want to be able to give back the knowledge I learn during my studies and to assist my colleagues and those reporting to me.”
Sabelo is a Ranger Sergeant managing a team of Field Rangers in Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town where he has been stationed since 2018. Prior to this position, Sabelo was a Field Ranger in Garden Route National Park, first based in Wilderness in 2012, and then in Knysna where he worked for five years. His accumulated experience in the field has equipped him with the practical skills needed in his career, protecting and defending wildlife areas, and his loyalty and discipline have led him to his current senior rank.
What Sabelo is now working to improve is his knowledge and understanding of conservation as a whole, and learning how he can better use his position as Ranger Sergeant to teach and implement best practice in the management of natural biodiversity.
To achieve his goal of reaching higher ranks in management and potentially becoming a Section Ranger, Sabelo enrolled in the Advanced Certificate in Nature Conservation class at the Southern African Wildlife College, but he requires support towards the R75 000 needed for his bursary. This is an amount that he does not have access to personally, which is why the SAWC as a non-profit organisation is calling upon a network of donors and supporters to help raise these funds. By donating any amount, large or small, you are playing a crucial role in helping Sabelo receive the best possible training for his career in conservation.
