Macdonald Matjitlane Ntelela
National Certificate in Natural Resource Management: Terrestrial
A SAWC-trained General Assistant in the field of conservation supporting the management of a protected area and seeking to develop a career in natural resource management.
“I want to learn more about conservation so that I can help the leaders in my community to address the challenges relating to habitat destruction and erosion in my local area.”
Macdonald is passionate about effecting change and addressing conservation challenges within his community. Having been born, raised, and schooled in the Greater Kruger bufferzone community, he has been living on the doorstep of South Africa’s largest protected area all his life.
Completing a Conservation General Assistant skills programme at the Southern African Wildlife College in 2018, Macdonald was encouraged to grow his career at Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency. This year, he enrolled in the year-long National Certificate course with the aim of being considered for new opportunities within the organisation.
His determination to upgrade his own skills and training matches his enthusiasm for effecting community change at home where his two children will look to him for leadership.
Macdonald requires support towards the R75 000 needed for his bursary. This is an amount that he does not have access to personally, which is why the SAWC as a non-profit organisation is calling upon a network of donors and supporters to help raise these funds. By donating any amount, large or small, you are playing a crucial role in helping Macdonald receive the best possible training for his career in conservation.
