Eduardo Hélio Jordão Mufume
Advanced Certificate in Nature Conservation from Limpopo National Park
Passionate about community and conservation
“I chose to study at the SAWC because of the incredible opportunities presented, particularly to meet students from other countries within the conservation arena. I am enthusiastic about the fact that we can share knowledge with each other on managing natural resources, and what works for different areas. I am very happy to be at the SAWC as it is the best place to learn about wildlife management and conservation”
Eduardo has fulfilled a professional role in Limpopo National Park in his home country of Mozambique since 2011. His job in the park’s Community Support Programme is crucial for developing agricultural and livestock management in the Chicualacuala buffer zone, where he works towards mitigating human-wildlife conflict in the area. Earlier in Eduardo’s career, he gained a qualification in agro-livestock and later worked with the Mozambican Council to address issues of food security in areas where local subsistence farming encroached on protected wildlife areas.
For the past 12 years, Eduardo’s career has developed within the conservation sector with a particular focus on communities bordering national parks. Now, after scoring highly in the entrance examinations and being nominated by ANAC, he is attending the Southern African Wildlife College with the ambition of completing his Advanced Certificate in Nature Conservation. He believes this qualification will enhance his knowledge and skills in biodiversity management, engender an appreciation and better understanding of wildlife in the community, and mitigate issues related to bush encroachment and human-wildlife conflict.
Eduardo requires support towards the R75 000 needed for his bursary. This is an amount that he does not have access to personally, which is why the SAWC as a non-profit organisation is calling upon a network of donors and supporters to help raise these funds. By donating any amount, large or small, you are playing a crucial role in helping Eduardo receive the best possible training for his career in conservation.
