Advanced Certificate in Nature Conservation from Kruger National Park
Local man with big dreams and a passion for conservation
“My career objective is to become a Section Ranger in the Kruger National Park, and I believe that completing my Advanced Certificate course at the SAWC will assist me in ultimately reaching my goal.”
Patrick is a resident of Hluvukani Village, which is located on the outside border of the Kruger National Park and Manyeleti Game Reserve in South Africa in the Southern African Wildlife College’s immediate surroundings.
He is a professional Field Guide with seven years of experience, currently working for South African National Parks (SANParks) at Olifants Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park – one of the country’s most prestigious wildlife areas and tourism hubs. Patrick is the face of ethical tourism as a representative of the Kruger National Park and his role contributes to protecting natural biodiversity by encouraging a global appreciation for wilderness. His career is an example of integrating residents of local communities into the tourism sector and creating a workforce for conservation.
Now, Patrick is enrolled in the SAWC’s Advanced Certificate in Nature Conservation – an opportunity he describes as the chance to better his conservation ethics, values, wilderness principles, and environmental legislation, which will prepare him for career growth within SANParks.
Patrick requires support towards the R75 000 needed for his bursary. This is an amount that he does not have access to personally, which is why the SAWC as a non-profit organisation is calling upon a network of donors and supporters to help raise these funds. By donating any amount, large or small, you are playing a crucial role in helping Patrick receive the best possible training for his career in conservation.
