Baricate Ndzunisani Ndlhovu
National Certificate in Natural Resource Management: Terrestrial
SAWC-trained Field Ranger determined to nurture a conservation ethic in her home community and build experience as an educator in natural resource management.
“Graduating with my National Certificate in Natural Resource Management will give me the skills I need to develop my career and become a leader, teaching others how to better look after our natural resources.”
Baricate was born and schooled in Limpopo, South Africa, and has worked in government service organisations since matriculating, but her passion and interest lie in conservation. Five years ago, she found employment at Modjadji Nature Reserve as a personal assistant and got the opportunity to attend an occupational qualification course at the Southern African Wildlife College, which equipped her to become a Field Ranger
Today, she carries out this profession at Man’ombe Nature Reserve, fulfilling law enforcement, reserve maintenance, and ecological management duties in the reserve. Through her interest in conservation, Baricate has established her goals for the future, and would like to address issues surrounding waste management, deforestation and veld fires, water shortages and poaching in her community.
Baricate requires support towards the R75 000 needed for her bursary. This is an amount that she does not have access to personally, which is why the SAWC as a non-profit organisation is calling upon a network of donors and supporters to help raise these funds. By donating any amount, large or small, you are playing a crucial role in helping Baricate receive the best possible training for her career in conservation.
