Founders Day

On Friday 26 October, the Southern African Wildlife College celebrated Founder’s Day, which is an opportunity to commemorate not only the day on which His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, unveiled the foundation stone of the Southern African Wildlife College, but to highlight to fact that every staff member has played a role in the organisation’s success

To harness the positive energy that abounds on this day of celebration, the staff also participate in all kinds of fun and games with a strong team building component. This year, the challenges were inspired by ‘The Amazing Race’.

“When participating in this event, there is no doubt that success is achieved through support for one another, whether it’s in running a centre of specialisation in conservation education, training and skills development or in tackling any obstacle or challenge presented,” said SAWC CEO, Theresa Sowry.

‘The Amazing Race’ saw staff members getting to interact with various community projects and learn more about the history of the College. Our sincere thanks is extended to the donors and sponsors who made this extra special. Here’s a link to our gallery of the day.

The Southern African Wildlife College’s 2018 Long Term Service Awards (LTA) recipients were congratulated on Founder’s Day on Friday 26th October. These awards recognise staff who have been with the College from 5 years and upwards.

This year there are 17 individuals with 5-year LTAs and one – Hlekani Nomsa Mathebula – who was recognised with a 10-year LTA. Congratulations and thank you to you all. Recipients are photographed together in the first photo below, and in the following photos are the winning teams from The Amazing Race challenge, which also saw the unveiling of the college’s new slogan, which resulted from a participatory approach at all levels of the organisation! A fantastic day enjoyed by all.
